Rugby Teams away to Athy

Thursday, January 07, 2010

Longford 1st and 2nd XV are due to play away to Athy this weekend, but with the recent weather reports indicating little change in the freezing, cold weather, there are doubts about the matches going ahead.
In line with all club rugby games in Leinster last weekend, Longford 1st and 2nd XV matches at home to Clane were called off.

The Leinster Branch cancelled all club rugby games in the province over the weekend due to the adverse weather conditions.

While there were many frozen playing pitches which are unplayable, the decision was primarily based on safety concerns as Garda advice was that many of the roads throughout Dublin and the country, both primary and otherwise, were potentially dangerous to travel upon.

Leinster Branch have announced that the Clane games, for both 1st and 2nd XV, will be played on Sunday January 24 (2.30pm for 1st, 1pm for 2nd).

Keep an eye on the Longford Rugby website – www.longfordrugby.com – for details of the Athy matches. Players will also be contacted by coaches+
