Central to ‘Explore Longford’ are descriptions of almost fifty heritage sites throughout the county. Each attraction has a short written and audio introduction to the site and its history, which will greatly-enhance the user experience. Sites include monastic foundations, churches, estate houses and other notable buildings. The App also has a photograph of each of the sites. In addition, it has a directory of the towns and villages in the county, with a brief overview of each one, with particular emphasis given to the county’s three award-winning villages; Abbeyshrule, Ardagh and Newtowncashel.
There is a section on genealogy for those interested in tracing their roots, including a listing of the all cemeteries in Co. Longford. For those interested in Celtic heritage, a section on ‘Language, Legend and Mythology’ recounts legendary tales that partly took place in the county, including The Wooing of Etain and the Táin Bó Cuailgne. A section on the Irish language also helps to demystify placenames and help with pronunciation.
