Longford Town Walking Trail

The Longford Town Walking Trail is a 2km looped walk around Longford Town highlighting the history and heritage.  The walk takes in landmark buildings and places of interest including St Mel's Cathedral, The Garden of Rememberance and the Army Barracks. 

Longford Tourism along with the Longford County Council regeneration team developed a brochure with a map. This is available from Longford Tourism Office, Longford County Council and Longford Library. It has 20 highlights exploring the history of Longford Town. There is ample Parking available with plenty of cafes and restaurants for refreshments.

Points of Interest: The Longford Town Cavalry Barracks was built in 1815.  It was re-named Sean Connolly Barracks after Brigadier Sean Connolly, of the Longford Brigade, who was fatally wounded in action in 1921 by British forces during the War of Independence.
