Family Breaks in County Longford

County Longford offers great family-friendly stays, cafés and restaurants with family favourites on the menu and plenty of activities for young and older.

Where to stay

Of course, there is the fabulous Center Parcs Longford Forest with its great accommodation options, restaurants and things to do for all the family.

The Longford Arms Hotel offers great family stays, with firm family favourites on the menu in their restaurant and their kid-friendly swimming pool in their leisure centre.

In Abbeyshrule, The Rustic Inn is close to the Royal Canal, with plenty of activities for all the family, including biking and kayaking. They also offer excellent food for all the family in their award-winning restaurant.

A family-run hotel, you will be warmly welcomed at Keenan's of Tarmonbarry. They offer comfortable family rooms and their restaurant caters for the whole family.

If self-catering is what you are after, the Self-catering two-bedroom house in Kenagh is a home away from home, as is The Loft in Ballymahon, Barley Harbour Lodge near Saints Island and the Heron Brook Lodge in Barry.

Larger family groups should also consider McCormac's Farmhouse in Mullinalaghta, with its private lakeshore offering plenty of opportunities for family fun.

Family Food Favourites

Along with Longford Arms Hotel, The Rustic Inn and Keenan's of Tarmonbarry, you will find delicious family favourites at the following cafés and restaurants.

Great cafés for all the family include Esquires, O'Hehirs, and Sambo's Cafe, all in Longford town.

Great dinner options include the family-run Cooney's Bar and Restaurant and the tasty Jolly Boys Pizza & Grill, both in Ballymahon

Mac's Shack serves great home-cooked food for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days in Keenagh village.

Family Fun Activities

The Royal Canal Greenway offers great family walks and cycles. On a dedicated greenway, all members of the family will be safe and away from traffic for the majority of the route. There are also many other walking and cycling trails to explore, and plenty of fishing, boating and kayaking options on County Longford's scenic lakes and rivers.

For young families, you can visit one (or all) of County Longford's 24 children's playgrounds!

You can also play some pitch and putt. If the weather isn't cooperating, go for a family swim at Coral Leisurego bowling or go to the cinema.

Knights & Conquests Heritage Centre engages young and old in our Norman history, including dressing up as a knight yourself!
