Education & Training

Longford offers the following Education facilities:

  • 42 primary level schools
  • 9 secondary level schools
  • Access to over 12 third level facilities within a radius of 100km - 45 minutes to Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT).
  • Longford Libraries - 6 library branches throughout County Longford.

Longford and Westmeath Education and Training Board

ETBs manage and operate second-level schools, further education colleges, and a range of adult and further education centres delivering education and training programmes.

Longford and Westmeath Education and Training Board delivers educational services to over 20,000 students and learners annually. The authority employs over 1,000 staff. It has an average annual budget of €54 million across all its divisions.

The authority has responsibility for: 8 post-primary schools, 3 Adult Guidance centres, 10 Further Education and Training centres, Music Generation and Youth Services accommodating community groups in approximately 50 locations throughout Longford and Westmeath.

Longford EDI Centre

The overall aim of the Longford EDI Centre is to provide a range of education and support services to unemployed and under-employed people living in County Longford and surrounding areas.
